8 Amazing Open Source 3D Graphics Software For Designers/Developers

1.3DSlicer

3D Slicer is a free open source software (BSD-style license) that is a flexible, modular platform for image analysis and visualisation. 3D Slicer can be extended to enable development of both interactive and batch processing tools for a variety of applications.

2.Aqsis

Aqsis is a free rendering suite compliant with the RenderMan standard. It is available under the BSD, previously under GPL. The Aqsis project consists of a renderer, shader compiler and a few other supporting components. Like the original PRMan from Pixar, it is an implementation of the Reyes rendering algorithm, which is famous for its high speed and efficiency in handling even very large scenes, and has good support for displacement shaders.

3.Art of Illusion

Art of Illusion is a software package used for 3D modeling, texturing, ray tracing, and otherwise rendering computer generated imagery stills or animations (movies). Art of Illusion is capable of modeling and rendering photorealistic images and animations; it is also capable of non-photorealistic rendering as well. Art of Illusion has features, such as mesh editing, texture mapping, and Boolean modeling, that are comparable to other high end commercial graphics software.

4.Blender

Blender is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software product used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, interactive 3D applications and video games. Blender's features include 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, raster graphics editing, rigging and skinning, fluid and smoke simulation, particle simulation, soft body simulation, sculpting, animating, match moving, camera tracking, rendering, video editing and compositing.

5.HyperFun

HyperFun is a programming language and software used to create, visualise, and fabricate volumetric 3D and higher-dimensional models.

6.jMonkey Engine

jMonkeyEngine (jME) is a game engine made especially for modern 3D development, as it uses shader technology extensively. jMonkeyEngine is written purely in Java and uses LWJGL as its default renderer (another renderer based on JOGL is available).

7.K-3D

K-3D is a free 3D modelling and animation software. Despite its name it is not a KDE application; it uses the GTK+ toolkit via gtkmm. It features a plug-in-oriented procedural engine for all of its content. K-3D supports polygonal modelling, and it includes basic tools for NURBS, patches, curves and animation.

8.OpenFX

OpenFX is an open-source, free modeling and animation studio, distributed under the GNU General Public License. The OpenFX featureset includes a full renderer and raytracing engine, NURBS support, kinematics-based animation, morphing, and an extensive plugin API. Plugin capabilities include image post processor effects such as lens flare, fog and depth of field.
